OUR STORY

Established in 2014 by two brothers, Alex and Mitch Wells, Billy van Creamy grew from humble beginnings; making all of their ice cream by hand in the kitchen of Thornbury Bowls Club and serving it out of their self-fitted food truck at Rucker’s Hill in Northcote.

The brothers grew up in Perth, Western Australia both loving surfing, adventure and long summers spent at the beach. Inspired by their childhood and being immersed in the Melbourne food culture they decided to take a leap and launch their own version of the tired Mr. Whippy van. For them, this meant the flavours of their ice cream had to come from authentic, real and whole ingredients and, a reimagined van!

A year after launching the truck, the Billy van Creamy shop was opened in Fitzroy North. Originally testing the waters as a pop up shop, the Fitzroy North store evolved into something more permanent, enjoying the crowds from Edinburgh gardens in the Summer and the ‘regulars’ who are part of the local community.

In addition to the shop and truck, Billy van Creamy now has a cart and appears regularly at big events such as St Kilda festival in Melbourne and Splendour in the Grass in Byron Bay. Alex and Mitch hope their dream of Billy van Creamy continues to grow, they have just added some new vegan flavours to their range and hope you can join them in indulging in their passion for really good ice cream!
